There are a number of reasons to add your artwork to online art websites and directories whether you have a website or not.
Added exposure for your work
If you add yourself to other websites on the web, you are creating added exposure for yourself and your work. On my website is a list of 30 or more free art websites or directories you can add a listing to – click here for a list. Some offer a basic listing with your name, a short sentence about your work, and contact info. Others allow you to add images. If you have a website, ALWAYS include a link to your site. If you don’t have a website, adding your artwork to some of these sites will be a way for you to show your work and will complement your website should you develop one in the future. You can always go back and edit your listings to include a link to your website.
It helps improve your website’s search engine placement
If you have a website, a large factor to how well your site performs in search engines is how many other websites link to yours. If other websites link to you, especially websites with high traffic, search engines view your website as more reputable because you are being referred by others. You can also create more links to your website by offering link exchanges with other artists, provide your galleries with your website address, and participating in online forums and blogs where you can often include a link to your website.
There are many art related websites and directories on the Internet. The list I have started for you does not include everything out there, but it is a good start. I encourage you to set aside time to add yourself to these websites, whether you do it in one sitting or spend five minutes a day adding your work to one website.
If you come across any other websites you think I should add to my list, please email me.
